HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: LOSING KESSAB, WE ALSO LOSE ARMENIA
09:35 * 25.03.14
Below is an excerpt from the paper's leading article addressing the
latest developments in Kessab, Syria's north-western province known
best for its Armenian community
The actual downfall of Kessab, Syria's Armenian-populated province,
marks a tragic chapter in our consciousness. With their homes
devastated, the Armenians of Kessab are in the status of migrants
again, so they are forced, yet another time, to apply desperately to
different governments - in the East, West, North or South - in search
of a salvation.
Hence, this is yet another challenge forcing us to think about the
Armenians' fate and the wheel of history that all the time pulls us
into the mincing machine.
We know Armenia is not a place to live in. But has America [the US]
always been a glittering and attractive country? We are losing Kessab
today; well, but we are also losing Armenia. And we are losing it more,
with the Armenians of Syria or their at least major part seeking a
shelter anywhere but in Armenia after having their homes devastated.
The events in Kessab signal for us yet another alarm that the Armenians
have to return to Armenia; they have to concentrate in Armenia and
live in Armenia. And Armenia will thus follow the Armenians being
deprived of home, in the status of an observer. And the Armenians,
on their part, we'll follow Armenia's decline as observers. This is
the logic behind the wheel of history. So all we need to do is to
simply get off the wheel absorbing humans.
