Lragir.am has published a number of articles on what may await
Karabakh in case of membership of Armenia to the Eurasian Union. The
publications suggest that after the membership of Armenia to the
Eurasian Union Russia may reach an agreement with Azerbaijan on
returning Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Now they are speaking about this
plan openly.
Pro-Kremlin experts say immediately after the membership of Armenia the
Eurasian integration of Azerbaijan will start which will organically
appear in the Eurasian community.
Sergey Markov said, for example, that Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani
diplomats are negotiating the settlement of the Karabakh issue. He
says soon Turkish diplomats will join the talks.
"The process has begun, diplomats have launched the movement, and it
may result in a Big Peace Agreement. In the first phase the liberation
of 7 occupied territories of Azerbaijan in return for lifting blockade
on the Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish borders is possible.
The diplomats are currently working on this option," he said.
One does not need big imagination to guess what the "second phase"
will be. Since Azerbaijan will also join the Eurasian Union, in the
second phase it will receive entire Karabakh with some status. In
other words, the scheme of 1920 will repeat.
This is how it is going to be because this is the concept of the
Russia-South Caucasus historical and political situation. When Russia
"departs" from the Caucasus, Armenia gets a chance to enlarge its
territory and build an independent state. When Russia returns, it is
in prejudice of the sovereignty, territories and interests of Armenia.
Russia cannot return and build an empire otherwise. The Russian empire
is possible with the help of Turkey and Azerbaijan and it is clear
how it will pay for it.
Russia has already deprived Armenia of an independent policy through
bilateral agreements, and after membership to the Eurasian Union it
will also deprive itself of sovereignty. At that time the Karabakh
issue will be "resolved" with the Russia-Eurasian Union-Azerbaijan
format. The members of the Eurasian Union are Azerbaijan's strategic
allies who supply arms to Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan is an organic part of the Eurasian Union and it cannot
be anywhere but there. The Eurasian Union is the only guarantee of
survival of the Azerbaijani state and Aliyev's regime. It is not
accidental that Turkey is pushing Azerbaijan into the Eurasian Union
and is ready for close relations with this union.
