Motion supporting the right of the so-called "Nagorno Karabakh
Republic" will not be discussed at the Basque Country parliament

    27.09.2014 [13:50]

Vitoria, September 27 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijani ambassador to Spain Altay
Efendiyev has met Parliament Speaker of the Basque Country Bakartxo
    Tejeria Otermin.
The Ambassador expressed concern over the reception of Karen Mirzoyan
presenting him as a "foreign minister" of the so-called "Nagorno
Karabakh Republic" and preparation of the motion about the right to
self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh adopted on the same day by the
Basque Country Parliament in early September. Efendiyev said it was an
unsuccessful attempt of the Armenian side to mislead the
parliamentarians of the Basque Country. He reminded that such steps
could damage the relations of both Spain and the Basque Country with
    Azerbaijan.
The Ambassador provided full information on the history and current
state of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, clarified
    the real situation.
He said: "Armenia has occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's
internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and
seven adjacent regions after laying territorial claims against its
South Caucasus neighbor that caused a brutal war in the early 1990s.
Long-standing efforts by U.S, Russian and French mediators have been
    largely fruitless so far."
"As a result of the military aggression of Armenia, over 20,000
Azerbaijanis were killed, 4,866 are reported missing and almost
100,000 were injured, and 50,000 were disabled.
The UN Security Council passed four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal
from the Azerbaijani territory, but they have not been enforced to
    this day".
The Parliament Speaker of the Basque Country Bakartxo Tejeria Otermin
said the motion was only considered at the commission level and she
herself was not fully aware of the document, which, according to her,
has no any legal ground. At her words, this was only the initiative of
two party groups and would not be considered at general discussions.
Ambassador Efendiyev expressed wish to meet with the commission
members, hold open discussions and answer their questions if needed.
The Parliament Speaker said she would promote such a meeting.
